Mark Willden
Mark Willden is a wood sculptor who transforms native Redshank and Manzanita into usable art, wall art, and 3D sculptures. He is known for looking at huge root burls and seeing the animal within. Using a chainsaw, grinders and sanders to bring the piece to life, Mark leaves as much of the natural form of the burl intact. To further enhance his creations, he inlays the wood's natural cracks and crevices with crushed turquoise, lapis, and malachite. Beginning as a soap-stone carver, Mark later became a carpenter and has been working with wood for forty years. Currently based in Anza, his unique work is highly sought-after in SoCal galleries and art shows.
