Ginny Lovell
Local artisan and native San Diegan, Ginny Lovell fell in love with stained glass art, jewelry design, photography and fiber arts when she was 20 years old. Throughout her lifelong business career at North Island in Coronado, California, she dreamed of spending more time creating art.
Now a retired executive, at age 70, Lovell's artistic desires are fulfilled, and handcrafted kiln fused 'warm' glass art is her passion. Desert, ocean and nature themes are reflected in her fused glass panels, powdered glass ruffled bowls, home decor, and Murano style floral millefiori pendants and earrings.
Ginny’s creative inspiration was born in her life experiences as a native San Diegan living along the local seashore and Warner Springs back country.
Her glass art appears in the Creative Paradise Glass online Artist’s Gallery, and was published by the Paul Wissmach Glass Company in Glass Patterns Quarterly Magazine. Ginny is well known for her glass fusing testing processes, documentation and technical tutorials, as well as her online practice of mentoring ‘newbie glassies.’
Her other skills include wired, copper, beaded and fiber jewelry and nature photography. Her jewelry designs were featured in the international Copper Wire Jeweler’s online magazine.
Ginny’s photos of local coastal estuarine landscapes appeared in Canadian art galleries for the International Pan American Photo exhibition. Others were published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrative (NOAA).
Ginny is a charter member of the Warner Springs Artisan Guild and the San Dieguito Art Guild. Her blue ribbon 'IB Native Glass Art' brand has been featured at The Offtrack Gallery in Encinitas and The Gallery at Warner Springs.
Ginny Lovell was born in Coronado, California, grew up in nearby Imperial Beach and worked for the Department of Defense at North Island for 37 years. Before advancing to management, she was a Mechanical Engineering Technician, specializing in Naval aviation industrial processes and environmental control technologies. She served in Washington DC as an intern in Bill Clinton's Administration while she worked assignments with the White House Environmental Council, the Environmental Protection Agency, and The Pentagon. She is a recipient of the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Management.
Ginny is a self-described former 'workaholic', and says retiring from her regimented business life liberated her true nature as a free spirited artisan, a sharp contrast to her former business world.
Ginny Lovell believes that reflecting nature’s form and color into art is truly therapeutic and soothes the weary soul. She now delights in crafting beautiful glass, jewelry and photography for others to share and enjoy in both San Diego coastal and back country art communities.
