Steve Staudenmeir

Steve Staudenmeir is an award-winning watercolor artist. His creative journey began after retirement, inspired by childhood memories of his grandmother’s drawings from the Roaring Twenties. Her graceful depictions of Flapper-era fashion sparked an early fascination with art, which resurfaced years later when he picked up a brush for the first time. Steve began with watercolors, drawn to the delicate forms and vibrant colors of flowers. These early floral pieces helped him build foundational skills in color, composition, and technique, which later carried into landscapes, wildlife, and cityscapes. Along the way, he's had the guidance of generous mentors, most notably master artist Richard Stergulz, co-founder of The Green Art House in Fallbrook, whose insight deeply influenced Steve's artistic development.
While watercolor remains Steve's primary medium, he has recently begun exploring oil and acrylic painting and also sketching with graphite pencil. These mediums offer a new freedom — liberating him from the light-to-dark constraints of watercolor and opening up new creative possibilities.
At the heart of Steve's artwork is a desire to capture beauty and emotion, whether found in the natural world, quiet moments, or the evolving energy of a city. Each painting is both a personal exploration and a tribute to the artists and experiences that have shaped his path.
