Robin Bryson
Robin Bryson is a gourd artist and art teacher based in Southern California.
As a youngster raised in a small town, Robin experimented with different paints on diverse textures such as shingles, chamois, velvet, leaves, and foil. She continued her passion for creative exploration in college.
In the late 1990’s, Robin was introduced to gourds and found her canvas. Building on her art knowledge, she expanded into carving, woodburning, painting, beading, and weaving. Many of her pieces feature woven pine needles, treated in a days-long process to become pliable hand-crafted embellishments. Each gourd is one-of-a-kind: growing season determines the thickness, the outer shell, the natural blemishes, and the color of each gourd. Each piece presents its own special challenges. As a result, every artwork Robin creates is absolutely unique.
Once Robin retired, she traveled for six years around the country, teaching gourd art to other gourd enthusiasts at shows and private homes.
Now back on the West Coast, she exhibits her artwork in local shows and teaches to expand the arts in local communities.
